BIO

Phil Austen & The Bayonets are a four piece band from Central Auckland that formed mid 2008. Their sound has been described as a refreshing blend of alternative/indie/folk/pop with "country-esque" roots.

Their debut EP "King Country and Title" was recorded by Dave Parker at Little Monster Studios and is due for release mid November 2009.

Over the past 18 months they have performed regularly with local acts such as Artisan Guns and Teacups at venues Auckland-wide. In March 2009 they played at Telecom Movies in the Park, and have headlined shows at Kings Arms, Dog's Bollix and Khuja Lounge. Currently Phil is a finalist for the 2009 Songwriter of the Year competition.

"When it comes to writing new material, it seems to happen in two ways. Either Phil or Martin will come up with an idea and we'll play around it, sharing ideas and expanding on it, or alternatively we'll just jam on a fat beat or a catchy riff and see where it goes." - Joel Bremner (Drummer).

Excellent song. I'm confused by the Jock Johnson and Coldplay comparisons. I'm guessing these are the only other bands that use acoustic guitars that these guys have heard. Love your stuff.

I have to agree with veronica_nz, you sound like Jack Johnson and Coldplay smashed together. However I happen to love that combination!!! You guys rock!
Coldplay/Jack Johnson don't have your voice. There's your unique-ness right there ;)
